Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (30) wraps his arms around Manchester United’s Harry Maguire (30).
Bayern Munich will take on Manchester United at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, at 4 a.m. ET on Nov. 21 in the first leg of their 2023-24 UEFA Champions League Group A matchup.
It’s practically the decider for first place in Group A. The stakes are high for both teams.
According to the Daily Mail, Kane spoke to the press ahead of the match. He was asked about his meeting with Maguire, who is a close friend of the England national team.
“I think Maguire is getting unnecessary attention. I think he’s been scapegoated in a way,” Kane said.
“He’s a very good friend of mine. From an England perspective, he’s one of the best defenders England have ever had,” Kane said, adding, “All he wants to do is keep trying to improve.”
“We’re very supportive of him as a member of the squad.”
Maguire is a center-back who joined United four years ago for a fee of £80 million ($131.8 million). The England international was entrusted with the task of being United’s defensive ace. 안전놀이터
However, he fell far short of expectations. He made frequent mistakes that led to goals and suffered many nagging injuries. He also lost his place in the starting lineup after the arrival of Eric ten Hagh.
Last season, Maguire started a total of 31 games. He started just eight of the 16 Premier League games. It’s safe to say he had little impact on the team. He didn’t get much of a chance, losing out to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Recently, he even lost the captain’s armband to Bruno Fernandez. Having lost his starting spot, his place in the team is dwindling.
This has led to transfer rumors. He was linked with a £30 million move to West Ham this summer, but the deal fell through after Maguire decided to stay at United. However, he has yet to earn the trust of his club, having started just one game this season.
