For the first time in the professional volleyball V-League, the ‘Asia Quarter Draft’ is held for only Asian players.

The Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) will hold the 2023 KOVO Women’s Asian Quarter Draft at the Stanford Hotel Grand Ballroom in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on the 21st.

The women’s Asian Quarter Draft is held non-face-to-face without practice matches to encourage players who have difficulty participating in practice matches during the tryout period due to national team or club schedules.

The V-League was first established in 2005, and the foreign player system was introduced in the men’s division for the first time in the second season, 2005-06 season. In the 2006-07 season, a year later, foreign players came to Korea for the women’s division.

It is the first time in 18 years that a draft for only Asian players has been conducted since the introduction of the foreigner system. Unlike the Asian Quarter, a foreign player tryout (selection of open players) with no nationality restrictions will be held in Turkiye next month.

During the tryout application period, which was held from February 20th to March 21st, players from various Asian countries gathered.

In the women’s division, a total of 23 players are waiting for selection. By nationality, 8 players from Thailand, 6 from the Philippines, 3 from Japan, 3 from Indonesia, 2 from Hong Kong, and 1 from Taiwan submitted applications.

By position, there are 11 wing strikers such as outside heater and apposite spiker, 4 middle blockers, 3 liberos and 5 setters respectively.

Overall, there are not many grasses, but Thailand’s national setter Phonpun Gedpard and setter Soraya Pomra, and Japan’s outside hitter Dokoku Reina draw attention.

Each team is contemplating which player to select to compensate for the weakness of each position. While libero, setter, and outside hitter are popular, calculations are in full swing for each club.

The seven women’s clubs are expected to have mixed joys and sorrows depending on the bead lottery. Unlike the tryout, which proceeds in reverse order of ranking in the previous season, in this Asian Quarter, one player can be selected with an equal 1/7 probability per team to establish fairness between clubs when selecting players.

Korea Expressway Corporation, the champion of the 2022-23 season, may be ranked first, and on the contrary, all possibilities are open to the extent that Pepper Savings Bank, which was the lowest, can be given the highest priority. 메이저사이트

In addition, the annual salary of players selected in the Asian Quarter Tryout is $100,000 (including tax) for both men and women, and there is no limit to the number of renewal contracts.

Road construction coach Kim Jong-min, who is the commander of the winning team, carefully predicted, “The teams that came out first may be able to choose a good player. It will depend on the luck of the marbles.”

Meanwhile, the men’s Asia Quarter Draft will be held face-to-face at Jeju Halla Gymnasium for three days from the 25th to the 27th.
