The San Diego Padres’ Darvish Yu, 37, has been placed on the disabled list with elbow inflammation and hopes to return in time for the season. Both Darvish and the Padres are keeping a close eye on his elbow.
Darvish was placed on the 15-day disabled list (IL) on April 29 with right elbow inflammation. Darvish, who signed a six-year, $108 million contract with San Diego in February, has struggled this season, going 8-10 with a 4.56 ERA in 24 starts.
MLB.com reported on March 30 that “San Diego is confirming the extent of Darvish’s apparent injury. They are awaiting the results of tests on his elbow.”
San Diego is 62-72 on the season and in fourth place in the National League West. They are 7.5 games back of the third wild-card spot, the San Francisco Giants, for the final postseason berth. With 28 games remaining, the Padres have virtually no chance of making the postseason.
If San Diego abandons its postseason hopes, there’s no reason to rush Darvish back. However, Darvish is hoping to return within the season. 스포츠토토
“After the game on Sept. 29, Darvish informed the club that he would like to return this season,” MLB.com reported. Darvish told the media, “Obviously, it doesn’t feel good. My responsibility is to pitch for the team and help them win. So it’s disappointing,” he said of the injury.
The results of Darvish’s examination and the direction of San Diego’s season will determine whether or not he returns this season.
