Harry Kane has begun his German conquest.

Bayern Munich defeated Werder Bremen 4-0 in the first leg of the 2023-24 German Bundesliga at the Weserstadion in Bremen, Germany, at 3:30 a.m. ET today. The win extends Bayern’s unbeaten start to the season to 12 consecutive seasons.

After losing in the DFB Super Cup, the Bavarians went into the league opener with a clean slate. Head coach Thomas Tuchel started the game with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Kane started up top as a striker. Kingsley Coman, Jamal Moussaoui, and Leroy Sane provided support in the second line. Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich held down the midfield. The back four was a combination of Alfonso Davies, Kim Min-Jae, Dayo Upamecano, and Nusair Mazrouei. Sven Ulreich was in goal.

It was the perfect win. Munich took the lead in the fourth minute of the first half when Sane scored from a one-on-one after a Kimmich header and a Kane pass. Kim Min-jae was as involved in the defense as he was at Napoli. Kane, as he did at Tottenham Hotspur, was busy in the center, on the flanks, up front and in the midfield, helping with playmaking.

At the start of the second half, Munich brought on Kim Min-Jae and brought on Matthijs de Ligt. The gap widened further. In the 29th minute, Davies played the ball to Kane in the center after an overlap. Kane’s shot from between the Bremen defenses found the back of the net for an extra goal.

There was a goal feast just before the end. Sane completed his hat-trick in the 45th minute with a line-breaking run, and Teller added the icing on the cake in stoppage time with a powerful shot against the near post. In the end, Munich held on for a four-goal, zero-goal victory over Bremen.

The spotlight was on Kane. After the game, Tuchel said: “‘Good’ is not the right word. It was more like ‘top’. Kane is a great guy, he came in and got an assist and a goal straight away. I hope it continues for a long time.”

After a successful debut, Kane said: “It’s not easy to come to a new country. It will take time, but I’m really happy. I will try to repay the faith. There has been a lot of talk since I came here. I just wanted to get out on the pitch and I’m happy to be able to help and contribute to the team. It was important to score four goals, but also to keep a clean sheet. You bounced back from the defeat against Leipzig in the DFB Super Cup. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening,” he said after the victory. 메이저사이트
