Mason Mount has completed his Manchester United medical.
The British ‘Sky Sports’ reported on the 4th (below), “Chelsea midfielder Mount has completed the Manchester United medical. The transfer fee will be 60 million pounds (about 990 million won). He will sign a five-year contract with an option for a further extension.”
On March 3, Fabrizio Romano, a journalist familiar with European soccer news, reported that “Chelsea will receive a transfer fee of 55 million pounds ($92 billion). An additional £5 million will only be activated if Mourinho wins a trophy with the Blues in the next five years.”
United began pursuing Mount in earnest two weeks ago. United made three offers. According to Romano, United made a £40 million offer in the third week of June, which Chelsea rejected. On June 21, United made a bid of £45 million plus £5 million (totaling £50 million – approximately 82 billion), but this did not change Chelsea’s mind.
A final offer was made. It was all or nothing. On the 23rd, the British public broadcaster ‘BBC’ reported that “Manchester United will make a third offer of 55 million pounds (about 915 million won) to sign Chelsea midfielder Mount. United have warned Chelsea that they will walk away from negotiations if the offer is not accepted.”
But Chelsea have not budged. They wanted a transfer fee of £65 million, which led United to suggest a face-to-face meeting. According to Romano, “When Chelsea rejected the third offer, tensions were high. United then proposed a face-to-face meeting with Chelsea, which took place in the United States. United offered £55 million, while Chelsea wanted a transfer fee of £65 million. They settled on a middle ground of £55 million plus £5 million. The £5 million is contingent on trophies won during Mount’s contract.”
With the transfer fee agreed, negotiations are continuing apace. Mount arrived at United’s training ground, Carrington, to undergo a three-day medical. “After completing a three-day medical, Mount has returned to United’s Carrington training ground to finalize the deal,” the UK’s Daily Mail reported. He is seen holding a coffee in one hand.” He is also holding a red object in his other hand, which is believed to be a United jersey.
United had been strongly linked with Mount since the beginning of the transfer window. There’s a reason why manager Eric ten Hagh wants to bring him in. The Telegraph claimed that “Van Gaal will give Mount the number eight role”. Currently, the number eight role at United is played by Christian Eriksen. Eriksen’s mobility has declined as he enters his 30s. Van Gaal has managed to keep him fit by making early substitutions towards the end of the season. 안전놀이터추천
His backup was Fred. But it was not enough. His ups and downs, defensive positioning, and poor build-ups have made him one of the most unpopular players with United fans. The arrival of Mount is likely to further diminish Fred’s standing, and he is expected to compete with Eriksen for a starting spot.
Romano concluded his article by saying, “United are ‘done with the deal’ and the reports of an approach for Moises Caicedo are false. United did not leave the race for Mount Race. They stayed put and have wanted him since they started chasing him. Mount has also shown his desire to stay with Van Gaal,” the club said in a statement.
Chelsea are understood to have made one offer to re-sign the player. “He wanted to go to Man United, but he didn’t want to fight with Chelsea,” Romano said. He wanted to stay at Chelsea but was disappointed with the club over the negotiations for a new contract. Mauricio Pochettino tried to keep him, but it was difficult. Mount stuck to a move to Manchester United or a summer free transfer.”
