After undergoing surgery on his left elbow last June, “Korean Monster” Ryu Hyun-jin of the Toronto Blue Jays will be pitching live this week.
“Hyun-jin Ryu will pitch live this week,” manager John Schneider said before the Blue Jays’ game against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, according to a report by Toronto sports media outlet Sportsnet.
Ryu, who is 75-45 with a 3.27 ERA in 175 career major league games (1003⅓ innings), struggled last year, going 2-2 with a 5.67 ERA in six games (27 innings). He last appeared on a big league mound on June 2 last year, when he underwent Tommy John surgery. 안전놀이터
Ryu transformed himself into a leaner version of himself through intense training and a strict diet. Ryu aims to join the starting rotation in the second half. “I’m working hard so that I can be a part of Toronto from the second half. My goal is to come back in the second half.”
While the Toronto starting rotation of Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Chris Bassett, and Yusei Kikuchi is holding up well, there is some uncertainty with Alec Manoa’s unexpected slump. If Hyun-jin Ryu returns to form and joins the starting rotation, the mound will be much easier to manage.
If Ryu returns right after the All-Star break, there will be no reason for Toronto to look to the trade market for starting pitching help.
