Left-back Destiny Udoji is ready to prove himself as Son Heung-min’s new partner for the 2023/24 season.

“Udoji insists he is ready to prove himself as he praises manager Enzi Postecoglou’s style of play,” the Daily Mail reported on Monday (April 19).

After a disappointing eighth-place finish in the league last season, Tottenham appointed Postecoglou, who won the Domestic Treble (League+League Cup+FA Cup) with Scottish giants Celtic, as their new boss.

Spurs, who are currently on a pre-season Asian tour in Australia, hosted West Ham United in a friendly on Sept. 18, with Udoji scoring a goal and making a clear impression on the manager.

Udoji has been with Tottenham since last summer. He was signed from Italian Serie A side Udinese, but was quickly loaned back to Udinese, so he didn’t get to play for Spurs.

Udinese’s attacking prowess has seen him return to Tottenham this summer and is expected to be the first-choice left-back for the upcoming 2023/24 season. The left-back may find the role a little awkward as Postecoglou favors a 4-3-3 formation, but he says he is definitely ready to prove himself.

According to the outlet, Udoji said, “I’ve watched almost all the Premier League games. The Premier League is a difficult game. It changes every season. Tottenham were good, but I think they were unlucky,” he said.

“I like the way Coach Postecoglou plays football. He wants to play possession football. He wants to keep the ball. I have a feeling this is going to be a very good season for us,” he said, “We’re going to play good football.”

He added that he is ready to prove himself on the new stage. “The Premier League is a big league,” Udoji said. I know it’s a very challenging league,” he said, adding, “I’m ready. I’m confident. I feel ready,” he said confidently. 메이저사이트

He also talked about playing as a full-back instead of a wing-back: “Postecoglou is a very good coach. I’m ready to play for him. He likes to play 4-3-3. I’m not a wing-back, I’m a full-back,” he said, adding, “Being a wing-back gives you more offensive freedom. You have more space to attack. We use a lot of space on the pitch. But as a left-back, you also have to defend. It’s not difficult, but it’s busier. But I was a fullback when I started playing soccer. I don’t have any problems at all. I know how to play,” he insisted.

As for his role model, he mentioned Real Madrid legend Marcelo. “I like to attack, overlap, dig inside, drive the ball and get inside,” Udoji said. I used to watch Marcelo a lot, I liked his style of play. He was very organized, his technique, his style, everything was good,” he said, adding that he wanted to play in a similar style.

If Udoji becomes a regular at left back, he will be the new partner of Son Heung-min, who will most likely play on the left flank. It will be interesting to see how the two pair up in the new season.
