Left-back Destiny Udoji is ready to prove himself as Son Heung-min’s new partner for the 2023/24 season.
“Udoji insists he is ready to prove himself as he praises manager Enzi Postecoglou’s style of play,” the Daily Mail reported on Monday (April 19).
After a disappointing eighth-place finish in the league last season, Tottenham appointed Postecoglou, who won the Domestic Treble (League+League Cup+FA Cup) with Scottish giants Celtic, as their new boss.
Spurs, who are currently on a pre-season Asian tour in Australia, hosted West Ham United in a friendly on Sept. 18, with Udoji scoring a goal and making a clear impression on the manager.
Udoji has been with Tottenham since last summer. He was signed from Italian Serie A side Udinese, but was quickly loaned back to Udinese, so he didn’t get to play for Spurs.
Udinese’s attacking prowess has seen him return to Tottenham this summer and is expected to be the first-choice left-back for the upcoming 2023/24 season. The left-back may find the role a little awkward as Postecoglou favors a 4-3-3 formation, but he says he is definitely ready to prove himself.
According to the outlet, Udoji said, “I’ve watched almost all the Premier League games. The Premier League is a difficult game. It changes every season. Tottenham were good, but I think they were unlucky,” he said.
“I like the way Coach Postecoglou plays football. He wants to play possession football. He wants to keep the ball. I have a feeling this is going to be a very good season for us,” he said, “We’re going to play good football.”
