Two Suwon FC players have sent messages of support for Lee Young-jun.
The South Korea U-20 national soccer team, led by head coach Kim Eun-joong, will face Italy in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 at the Estadio Ciudad de la Plata in La Plata, Argentina, at 6 a.m. on Sept. 9. South Korea advanced with a 1-0 win over Nigeria in the quarterfinals, while Italy defeated Colombia 3-1 to advance to the semifinals.
Ahead of the match, Suwon FC’s Lee Yong-wha and Shinsegae sent messages of support to Kim Eun-jung-ho’s striker Lee Young-joon. Lee is currently fulfilling his military service with Gimcheon Commerce, but his original club is Suwon FC. Born in 2003, Lee is the youngest member of Suwon FC, along with other players born in 2003. Lee Yong-woo and Shinsegae took to Suwon FC’s official channels to show their support for the youngest player ahead of the big game.
First, Lee Yong-woo wrote, “Hey, Young-joon, I’m cheering for you on TV. Tomorrow is the quarterfinal against Italy, and I’m so proud of you as an older brother and as a senior. I’ll be cheering for you tomorrow. Cheers!” and congratulated Youngjun.
As Yong said, Lee has been one of the best performers in the tournament. He scored the game-winning goal against France in the first round of the group stage and opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the round of 16 against Ecuador. Aside from his goals, Lee also has a lot of influence on his team’s performance by battling with opponents up front. It is no exaggeration to say that he has emerged as a star of the tournament. 스포츠토토
Following the tournament, Shin Dong-seok commented, “Hey, Young-joon, I’ve been watching your articles a lot lately. I watched you play a little bit, and you’ve gotten really good. I hope you can show more of that when you come back to Suwon FC, and I want to see you win tomorrow’s game against Italy to advance to the final and bring home the trophy. I’ll ask you to score a goal and show me a nice ceremony. I’m rooting for you!”
If South Korea can defeat Italy and reach the final, it will be the first time since the 2019 tournament that they have reached two consecutive finals. All eyes will be on Kim Eun-Joong-ho to see if he can pull off a victory against the traditional powerhouse Italy and advance to the final.
