The South Korea Under-17 National Team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-17 Asian Cup 2023.

Byun Sung-hwan’s side cruised to a 4-0 victory over Afghanistan in their second Group B match of the tournament on Monday (Sept. 19) at Pathum Thani Stadium in Thailand.

South Korea, who had earlier thrashed Qatar 6-1 in the first leg, moved to the top of the group with two consecutive wins and secured at least a second-place finish regardless of the outcome of their remaining matches, clinching an early quarterfinal berth. South Korea’s offense has been on fire, scoring 10 goals in two games.

Byun Sung-hwan has opened up a gap on Iran (W1 D1 L4), Qatar (W1 D1 L1), and Afghanistan (W2 D0 L0) in Group B. South Korea will finish first in the group depending on the outcome of their remaining match against Iran. They need at least a draw to stay on top.

If the team advances to the semifinals or beyond, they will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November.
